11.03.05: Star General Contractors Wins Business Diversity of the Year Award
ROCKFORD, IL November 3, 2005 - Star General Contractors, LLC, a division of Star-Holdings, LLC, has become the first company ever to receive the Business Diversity Award from the Northern Illinois Minority Companies Association (NIMCA). Founded by regional business leaders in 1989, NIMCA works to promote companies owned by women and people of color.
This new award recognizes Star General Contractor's recent decision to create a fulltime position for an employee who facilitates training for small, minority-owned contracting businesses. As a division of a company with over 400 employees in 10 states, this was seen as a major development by the award's selection committee.
Reaction to the award was very positive at the Rockford-based company, which sees itself as a major proponent of local communities and the businesses who drive their economy.
"We really wanted to reach out to a number of small and minority-owned businesses and encourage them to actively participate in new developments," said Mike Moore, principal of Star-Holdings.
The award will be presented at NIMCA's 16th annual banquet at the Cliffbreakers Hotel & Convention Center in Rockford on Friday, November 4th.
